After being struck with the blow that its long time partner Penske Racing announced that they would be teaming up with Ford next season, SRT division head, Ralph Gilles, scheduled a news conference where he is expected to announce that Dodge will be leaving NASCAR at the end of the 2012 season.

After more than a 20 year absence from NASCAR, Dodge returned in 2001 but hasn’t fared all that well. Of the major manufacturers involved in NASCAR, Dodge sadly ranks last. It had been teamed up with Penske Racing through most of those years.

The racing buzz on the street is that Penske Racing was asking for a five year commitment and Dodge wasn’t willing to give it, so Penske left Dodge holding the bag and without a team to compete in the 2013 season.
