Good news for many 5.7L Hemi owners out there but great news for one in particular. Supercharger giant, Kenne Bell, has chosen West Coast Challengers club member Julio and his 2009 white Dodge Challenger R/T for the testing and designing of a 2.8L Kenne Bell supercharger kit for the 5.7L Hemi platform.
On April 19, 2011, MrJ dropped off his Dodge Challenger 5.7L Hemi R/T at the Kenne Bell facility in Rancho Cucamonga, California, and bid a temporary farewell to his car for the next month or so while Kenne Bell works their supercharger magic.
In exchange for using Julio’s car for research and development of the new 5.7L supercharger kit, and as the test mule for CARB evaluation and testing, as well as the subject for use in photos for the installation sheets, Kenne Bell has graciously agreed to donate all of the parts and labor for the install. Julio will be left will one sweet ride after the installation and testing is completed.
Before, if you wanted to add a Kenne Bell supercharger to your 5.7L Hemi, you’d have to modify many of the parts as they were only being sold for the 6.1L Hemi platform and many of the parts didn’t matched or line up. With the completion of this testing, the Kenne Bell supercharger should be available soon as an over-the-counter kit for 5.7L Hemi owners.
In addition, thanks to Julio because his car was used for the emission testing, the Kenne Bell supercharger kit will soon be coming with its own Executive Order Number from the California Air Resources Board (CARB), certifying that it complies with all emission requirements for the State of California — the most stringent standards of all of the states.
Update: On October 17, 2011, the California Air Resources Board issued its Executive Order certifying the Kenne Bell supercharger complies with all emission standards. CARB Executive Order Number D-271-22.
